FREE Outdoor Learning Training Day for Pendle Hill Schools

The Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership scheme finishes this Autumn. To celebrate the end of the four year Outdoor Learning project which has been delivered in partnership with The Ernest Cook Trust, The Outdoor Learning Training day aims to provide local teachers with knowledge, skills and resources to support Outdoor Learning within their education establishment and the local landscape.
The day will also be a networking opportunity to hear from fellow teachers and education organisations about the importance, benefits and methods of embedding outdoor learning into a school. The day brings together environmental education experts, local outdoor learning organisations and East Lancashire education providers.

Where
Please park in Barley. You will then be bused to Whitehough Outdoor Centre

Barley Pay and display car park, Barley Road, Barley BB12 9LD
The Ernest Cook Trust is able to provide a minibus service from Barley car park to the Whitehough Outdoor Centre. This will be available from 8.30-9.15 am and from 2.35 pm until 3.30pm. Barley car park is pay on exit and managed by the Parish Council, please cover this cost yourself (£1.50=up to 3 hours, £3=3+ hours)
What to bring and wear
Please bring note book. pen, snacks, water bottle and lots of questions. There will be tea, coffee and water on offer through the day, plus biscuits. Hot lunch will be served in the dinning room. Please wear outdoor clothing suitable for the weather on the day. Outdoor shoes and comfy clothing is best, no need to dress up for us. A coat and sun cream might also be handy! The workshops will be outside no matter the weather.

2.30pm Conference close and further networking opportunity. The Barley shuttle bus will commence from 2.35 until 3.30
Workshops
These have now been allocated to all attendees.

Option 1 - Forest School and Bushcraft Skills
Delivered by Whitehough Outdoor Centre and Lancashire Wildlife Trust
Intro of Forest School, the ethos and what level of training teachers required to become a Forest School leader. Plus learn some basic bushcraft skills.
- Option 2 - Foundations for Outdoor Learning
Delivered by The Ernest Cook Trust
Discuss how Outdoor Learning can be implemented into school development plan or as a focus on school improvement plan. Plus school ground development, H&S, Risk Assessments and policies.
- Option 3 - Geography Skills
Delivered by The Ernest Cook Trust
Become at ease with a compass and map, suitable for novices. Learn the basic navigation skills, plus tips on how to teach geography skills to children.
- Option 4 - Natural History Identification
Delivered by Ribble Rivers Trust
Learn about an array of flora and fauna within woodland, meadow and pond habitats. Gain useful knowledge and facts to reuse.
- Option 5 - Local History
Delivered by Lancashire Museums team
Discover important events, people and historic locations around Pendle Hill. Learn useful facts and information.
- Option 6 - Art in the Landscape
Delivered by In-Situ
Bring art in all its forms into wild spaces. Learn techniques, outdoor art styles and how to explore different senses and landscapes through art.
